Paris Fashion Week has totally been killing it – more exciting and inspiring than the fashion weeks in New York, London and Milan. I was a little underwhelmed with all three of them. Like, I wasn’t even totally in love with Tom Ford’s fall collection, which was a rarity for me. But Paris Fashion Week has been awesome, and there are so many important shows still to come. One of my favourite Paris collections so far was Balmain. Olivier Rousteing showed a safari inspired collection with a fancy urban twist and one that seemed to embrace different cultures.
Many of the clothes had the 80s influence and silhouette we’ve come to expect from Balmain since Rousteing has been at the label. The pieces were definitely luxurious but also wearable (the most part) and featured a lot of army green, cargo pants, motorcycle jackets, high waisted leather pants, striking leopard jackets and skirts, and a few solid black and white outfits. Some of the pieces were also accented with silk chords and gold chains, and the incredible craftsmanship is what Paris fashion is all about. Many of the looks seemed as if they were tailored made for Rousteing’s new buddy, Rihanna. I’m sure we’ll soon be seeing her rocking a lot of looks from this collection.
Rousteing also nailed it with the accessories. The chocker style necklaces, oversized hoop earrings and wrap bracelets were some of the best I’ve seen this season. Also, he had one of the best model castings of the season as well featuring Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls (my current fave), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Anja Rubik, Angela Lindvall and Karlie Kloss. It was reminiscent of the fashion shows in the early 90s where many of the models were as famous as the designer they were modelling for. Photos via style.com
