The 69th BAFTA awards took place on Sunday night and while the prestigious British awards show is usually a pretty accurate predictor of who will win the Oscar at the end of the month, the BAFTAs this year were about one thing only – Cate Blanchett’s incredible McQueen gown. Well, as far as the dresses go, it was an interesting year. A lot of safe choices and a few risks – some worked and some didn’t. Usually when I see a red carpet look, I know immediately if I like it or not but this year there were a few I had to ponder. There was no one particular dress that blew me away but there were definitely some memorable looks – and a couple of unfortunate ones. Either way, some of the more daring looks appeared after the ceremony at the after-parties. If only people could have that much fun at the main event… So in no particular order, here it goes.
You can’t have a blog focusing on fancy and not talk about Jane Fonda as often as possible. Because she exemplifies it. And I’ll keep on saying it over and over and over. Jane Fonda is incredible. She’s pretty much ageless. And now at 76, she once again looks better than ever. Sure she’s had a couple of admitted facelifts but she doesn’t look strange or like she’s trying too hard. She just looks good. And she looks like herself. Fonda stars in the new L’Oréal Paris campaign in preparation for the launch of their new Pure Reds lipstick collection (available spring 2015).
