Designer Johnson Hartig’s spring collection for Libertine was a nice break from the 90s minimalism so prevalent throughout NYFW this spring. It was like glammed-up punk and many of the pieces had a 80s Ungaro-with-an-edge vibe. The sequin detail and beaded embellishment were intricate and well done, but also cool and fun. And the combination of patterns and materials worked really well. This is the kind of show we don’t get to see a lot of at NYFW any more. It pushes the boundaries and makes a statement yet still contains many beautifully made and wearable pieces. Both Hartig’s sense of humour and smart tailoring are going to have a lot of fashion editors talking. And how awesome were some of the men’s suits?!
