It’s been a busy week for award shows and Saturday’s SAG Awards had the most colourful red carpet we’ve seen in a while. The stars tend to have a little more fun with their dress choices at the SAGs and the abundance of colourful dresses represented that. There were also some different dress choices that always make for good conversation and style debates. Below are some of the more memorable looks of the night. The Oscars are now only six weeks away…

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

008m

I had to think about this dress a bit. On anyone else, I wouldn’t have liked it but on the legendary actress, it worked. The colour is not one you typically see on Blanchett and the style and cut were super different (it did kind of look like a bib) but the combination of the various design element made for an interesting piece. And it was a dress that didn’t seem to take itself too seriously (if that’s a possible).

Sandra Bullock in Lanvin

033m

Much better than the Prabal Gurung tri-coloured gown at the Golden Globes. It’s an elegant dress – the high-slit, metallic green and draping all worked well together. I like that she accessorized with only gold heels and that beautiful antique Fred Leighton snake bracelet. Her hair looks soft and pretty too.

Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci

025m

Lupita Nyong’o stunned again (this is now three for three) in a beautiful custom teal Gucci dress with floral embroidered straps. It’s striking and feminine. Also love the matching eye shadow. I wonder what her shoes looked like? And I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars. It’s going to be legendary.

Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi

015m

I’ve noticed a lot more Antonio Berardi on the red carpet lately (loved his Spring 2014 ready to wear collection) but I was conflicted by this dress. It’s a beautiful colour on Adams and I like the cut-out on the arm but the angled neckline is odd. Overall, I think she looked lovely, although I would’ve liked her hair down instead of that retro style. It felt like it aged her a bit.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

024m

Her best Dior dress in a long time and she redeemed herself after her odd dress choice at the Golden Globes. It’s young, sexy and fun. I don’t really understand how this is considered ‘Haute Couture” but it’s a good dress and the multi-coloured sequins are cool. I also loved her incredible dangling Jennifer Meyer earrings. A perfect complement to the long straight dress.

Julia Roberts in Valentino

Another different choice for Roberts who wore a custom pink silk jumpsuit by Valentino and it was unfortunate. The cut of the pants wasn’t very flattering – it almost felt like they designed a dress and making it into a jumpsuit was an after thought. And not a very good one. After two controversial looks in a row, let’s hope Roberts makes a style comeback at the Oscars.

Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan Atelier

Vergara looked sexy as usual in a strapless, sequined, gunmetal gown by Donna Karan Atelier. Apparently it was really heavy and didn’t provide much movement as she walked the red carpet. But I thought it was a lovely dress and it looked super expensive. Her hair also looked beautiful. And check out the necklace? Now, that is fancy.
