Cannes 2013
Cindy Crawford, Nicole Kidman, Cara Delevingne and Jessica Chastain on the red carpet.

Love looking at all the fancy dresses, jewels, celebs, models, parties and yachts every year at Cannes. It’s so over the top, it’s awesome. This is where some of the biggest stars go all out because Cannes is all about excess – so there’s no need to hold back. Here are a some looks I thought were fancy and memorable this year.

Cindy Crawford in white Roberto Cavalli and Chopard Jewels

This was a moment. Cindy opened the festival with Georgia May Jagger (Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s daughter) and stole the spotlight from all the movie stars at the festival. The New York times says Crawford delivered the most jaw dropping red carpet performance of the whole festival. And this was a good dress. The gold key-hole neckline detail added to the drama and the draping in the front was super flattering. Some people wonder why do many models attend the Cannes Film Festival and it’s because of their runway training, they add to the glamour and excitement of the red carpet. She also wore incredible Chopard jewelry, which interestingly was stolen along with other stars’ borrowed jewels in a good old fashion jewelry heist – over $1.4 million in Chopard jewelry was stolen.

Nicole Kidman in Christina Dior Haute Couture

So we knew Nicole Kidman was going to bring it at the festival this year and she sure chose well for her first red carpet appearance at the festival at the premiere of The Great Gatsby. The dress is from the Haute Couture S/S 2013 collection and it’s incredible. That’s detail and bead work is amazing, and it’s a good length. Her makeup is also perfection – love the lipstick and the pastel eye shadow. The pink patent shoes are pretty chic too – I’m really into coloured patent shoes right now and they’re a great addition to any wardrobe. Nicole definitely started off the festival on a high note and then followed up with a few other stellar memorable looks throughout the festival.

Jessica Chastain in Versace and Bulgari Necklace

Jessica Chastain is so beautiful and this is such a classic Hollywood glamour look at the premiere of Cleopatra. The hair is very Veronica Lake. And I was surprised this dress was Versace – it’s simple and elegant, which isn’t a typical quality of Versace, and it’s perfect for the Cannes Film Festival. And what’s really cool about this look is that Jessica was at the 50th anniversary of Cleopatra, which starred the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, and she’s wearing one of Elizabeth’s most iconic pieces of Bulgari jewelry – this incredible sapphire-and-diamond “sautoir” necklace – with a 65-carat center stone! – and was bought by Burton for Taylor’s 40th birthday. It’s part of the eight-piece collection of Bulgari jewels that the house bought back from Taylor’s 2011 Christie’s auction. They’re rarely loaned to celebrities, but as the evening’s co-sponsor, Bulgari made a special exception.

 Zoe Saldana in Emanuel Ungaro

Zoe Saldana is one of the best to watch out for on the red carpet – and she has a really awesome stylist. And I love this two tone printed dress from Emanuel Ungaro’s Fall 2013 collection. It’s great look and black and white is supper popular right and so is mixing patterns. This look shows how great it can look when you mix patterns correctly – it looks super cool. And her orange suede ankle-strap pumps by Oscar Tiye add some colour to the whole look. I love this style of shoe – the pointy tow and ankle strap stiletto. Everyone can add some colour and chicness to their outfit simply by rocking some bright coloured shoes. Why not? Fashion should be fun and this whole look sure is.

Cara Delevingne in Burberry Prorsum and Chopard Jewels

One of the hottest models around right now made a pretty stunning appearance for her first time at Cannes. This dress was two layers – it’s black lace over top of a simple spegetti strap black dress. And it works well. The red lipstick really adds to the look as do the Chopard Jewels. This is a model that knows how to bring it on the red carpet and turn heads.

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior and Chopard Jewels

White dresses were definitely a trend on the red carpet this year. And this one is beautiful. It’s modern, elegant and good-looking all at the same time. The draping detail on the side is feminine and flattering and love the gold Dior shoes and Chopard bracelets and ring. This is glamour without over doing it.

Nicole Kidman in Valentino Haute Couture And Fred Fred Leighton Jewels

This dress was a show stopper. There’s been some disagreement about whether or not this was the dress that Anne Hathaway was supposed to wear at the Oscars but changed her mind at the last minute because she thought it was too similar to Amanda Siegfried’s Givenchy dress. And LOVE the big gold drop Fred Leighton earrings too. Nicole and her stylist has very good and expensive tasted in jewelry.

 Jessica Chastain in Givenchy

The craftsmanship on this purple beaded gown is incredible. I also really love the loose ponytail. It’s fresh and balances out such a formal dress. Also, I liked that’s she’s not wearing any jewelry. There’s such going on with this dress with the colour, detail and beading you don’t need anything else.

Sharon Stone in Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli is not a favourite and he dressed Sharon for all her appearances at Cannes this year, but I thought this one was the best. The embellished cobalt blue gown looked awesome on her and she can sure work the sexy low cut neckline. Also – look at the emerald and dismond necklace! That’s some fancy jewelry that’s perfect for how over the top Cannes is. At 55, Sharon is aging super well and definitely understands moderation in terms of the work she’s had done.

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

Once again Jennifer Laurence is in Dior – it’s a little predictable but she’s obviously signed to the label so she doesn’t have much of a choice. Here’s another example of the popularity of black and white. The simple dress suits her modern aesthetic and black and white sure works well with super red lipstick – which I think is underrated. She’s such a pretty healthy looking gal. And I bet she’s super cool and fun.
