Always the most fun award show to watch and one the best red carpets of the year. And of course Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved once again they’re the best award show hosts ever. They should pretty much just host everything from now on. And the fashion was good. Lots of colour. Lots of detail. Lots of glamour. But there were a few looks that were underwhelming. And one that was completely unfortunate. Can you guess who? Let award season continue!
Emma Stone in Lanvin
Definitely one of the best looks of the night. It was young, fresh and interesting. She also looked comfortable and super relaxed. Loved the beading on the top and wearing pants to an event like this was awesome. Very chic.
Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture
A totally outstanding dress. The detail and the graduated silver and gunmetal colour is incredible. And love the feathers at the bottom. For sure the most glamorous dress of the night. It belongs in a museum. But there was something about the hair and makeup that seemed slightly off. Like she left the house in a hurry.
Tina Fey in Antonio Berardi and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
Fey’s dress was interesting but the cut wasn’t the most flattering. It was odd. Beautiful and intricate detail though. But not half as good as the killer tuxedo she changed into halfway through the show. That was one of Fey’s best looks ever. Loved the colour of Poehler’s dress and the pockets were super cool. She seemed relaxed and like she felt good in it. It wasn’t too ME ME ME either which I liked. Basically completely opposite from anything Jennifer Lopez would ever wear.
Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace
So old school Hollywood. Very Veronica Lake. Glamorous and sexy. Loved it. And the hair and makeup were beautiful too. Loved the material and the draping at the front was perfectly well done
Amal Clooney in Dior Haute Couture
Her first major red carpet event and she looked lovely. Old school Hollywood and a definite Jackie O vibe. Slightly underwhelming – especially after the incredible dresses she wore on their wedding weekend. But I still liked it. And nice move on the white gloves. People are still talking about it. And loved the red lips and long earrings.
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
So much Versace on the red carpet last night. Hudson looked great as usual but this wasn’t her best look. We’ve seen this look so many times before. It’s very Jennifer Lopez-y. And nothing will ever be able to top Hudson’s incredible black and gold Alexander McQueen dress she wore two years ago. That was an all-time fave.
Amy Adams in Atelier Versace
Super boring. It felt way too old for her. This is one of those dresses you’d see on a socialite in her 70s at a fundraiser. I’m not into that colour either. I feel like it’s one of those colours that no one looks great in. Let’s hope she steps it up a lot for the Oscars.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
Very Jennifer Lopez. And super dramatic. Lopez definitely likes being the centre of attention. And this is one of those dresses that command A LOT of attention. But I felt like everything was a little much. Too much hair, too much tan, too much dress. And did no one else notice you could see her nipple when she was on stage?! I can’t believe more people haven’t mentioned it.
Dakota Johnson in Chanel Haute Couture
Loved this dress. Absolutely one of the night’s best. The material was almost magical. And the cut was perfect on her. It was youthful and light. And surprisingly soft for a dress with so much sparkle. I like how she kept everything else relatively simple too. The dress also came with an amazing matching blazer which she wore later on in the night.
Jane Fonda in Versace
SHE’S 77 YEARS OLD! Fonda once again looked stunning in long sleeved Versace – which seems to be her go-to designer for red carpet events. It suits her perfectly. She’s incredible.
Kerry Washington in Mary Katrantzou
I was surprised this was Mary Katrantzou. It’s a different look for the progressive designer. I loved the metallic pink colour but the cut wasn’t my favourite. It feels a little prom dress-y. And the length wasn’t working for me either. Cool fabric though.
Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein Collection
Another one of those dresses that was surprisingly underwhelming. She looks good but it was just kind of not that interesting. It reminded me of the white Chanel dress Anne Hathaway wore in 2013 but I like this one better. And there sure were a lot of women wearing their hair to the side. I guess that’s a thing.
Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent
I couldn’t believe this was Saint Laurent. It was rather underwhelming. Not exciting or interesting at all. From all the cool Saint Laurent looks she could have picked, no idea why she went with this one. But the earrings were awesome.
Sienna Miller in Miu Miu
Miller looks so great lately. She seems happy and looked fresh. Love her hair length too and the earrings were incredible. She’s pretty consistent when it comes to making interesting dress choices. There’s nothing typical about this dress, which is always refreshing. The material is pretty and love the beading around the neckline. The dress had a vintage vibe which totally suited the free spirited actress.
Lupita Nyong’o in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture
She’s so lovely and always takes chances on the red carpet. While I love Giambattista Valli and the colour and detail is super pretty, I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. It’s interesting but there was just something about it that wasn’t working for me. But it’s people like Nyong’o who make watching the red carpet fun.
Naomi Watts in Gucci
The Bulgari serpenti necklace was incredible – 76 carats of pavé diamonds. Probably the best piece of jewellery of the night. I saw that necklace at Gallerie Lafayette in Paris and almost died. It’s that beautiful. The shade of yellow looked really lovely on her as well. And nice job on the red lips.
Keira Knightley in Chanel
Dresses don’t get much more polarizing than this one. I like that she’s always brave on the red carpet but let’s be honest – this is just a weird dress. There’s too many elements to it. But the feathers and butterflies are pretty. And I loved her hair and makeup. The lipstick is perfect.
Cindy Crawford in Versace
Crawford has a pretty tough time ever looking bad but she always wears the same thing. Like Sofia Vergara. The colour is great but other than that, there’s nothing remarkable or interesting about this dress. I’d love to see her in a Alexandre McQueen or Givenchy – something more fashion forward. I kind of feel like she doesn’t really care that much about fashion. Her hair sure looked good though.
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad
This was such a beautiful dress. The intricacy and detail is incredible. It’s beautifully well made. And I like her hair in a ponytail too. Why can’t Cindy Crawford ever wear anything like this?
Lana Del Rey in vintage Travilla
Unfortunate. Like really unfortunate.
