Red Carpet Continues At Critics’ Choice Awards

Award season is well under way and last night the stars appeared at the Critics’ Choice Awards. It’s definitely not the Golden Globes but there were still some noteworthy looks – and some forgettable ones. And it’s always fun when Angelina and Jen are on the same red carpet. Wouldn’t it be amazing if one time there was a style prank and they both showed up in the same thing?! People would freak. That would be the best stylist practical joke ever.

Julianne Moore in Saint Laurent

Like her incredible Givenchy dress at the Globes, this was one of the best of the night. She looked beautiful and happy. It was also sexy without being too much. And sooo much better than the Saint Laurent dress Jennifer Aniston wore to the Globes. It was perfect for the event. Can’t WAIT to see what she wears to the Oscars.

Angelina Jolie in Versace

Jolie wears Versace a lot on the red carpet – and this was not one of my favourites. Don’t the sleeves seem unnecessary? And it’s super old fashioned. I get what they were going for but it didn’t work. Maybe the concept did but definitely not the execution. Having said that, she’s Angelina and is totally stunning. And she doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of her red carpet choices. We get it. She’s “above” that.

Jennifer Aniston in Gucci

After what was a likely a bad day for not being nominated for an Oscar, she came to play. And I love the idea of a suit on the red carpet (it’s my favourite look for evening right now), but this was an ‘almost-but-not-quite’ for me. The pants were too long – it looks like she was stepping on them at the back. It just wasn’t as good as it could have been. And I think the body chain is kind of lame. But kudos for doing something different.

Marion Cotillard in Dior

I love Marion Cotillard. She seems so lovely and she’s so talented. But she needs to ditch her deal with Dior. I feel like it hasn’t worked (for the most part) in a while. It’s always so serious and arty. And she doesn’t even seem comfortable in Dior lately. Like she wishes she didn’t have to wear it.

Jessica Chastain in Antonio Berardi

This was an interesting and super different look for Chastain. The detail and embroidery are beautiful and intricate, and the angular cut is modern. There’s obviously an Asian influence to the design and it works. Great hair and makeup too. And apparently she gave an awesome speech about the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

Emily Blunt in Emilio Pucci

Pucci is one of my favourite lines for women. Peter Dundas has done such an awesome job reinvigorating the line. And while I like this dress on Blunt a lot more than the white Michael Kors dress she wore to the Globes, I think she could have chosen something cooler than this red lace gown. It’s pretty but I don’t love the bottom. It’s so gown-y. Picture her in something like this from Pucci’s Spring 2015 collection. But love the easy tussled hair.

Reese Witherspoon in Lanvin

My least favourite of the night. The whole look is very Real Housewife-y. Like, I’m pretty sure Lisa Vanderpump has the same one. I’m surprised that she (and her stylist) choice this. But I’m sure she’ll step it up for the Oscars.

Amy Adams in custom Max Mara

Adams seems lovely but I feel the same about this dress as I did with the drab Versace she wore to the Globes – not much. It there was ever a time to describe a dress as lackluster, it would be here. Nice red lips though.

Leslie Mann in Reem Acra

This is how you do a strapless tea-length dress (see Amy Adams). Mann knows what works for her and she nailed this whole look. The fabric on the dress is super luxurious, the shoes are cool and her hair and makeup were perfect. This was a great look and perfect for the evening.

Keira Knightley in Delpozo

Hmm. I’m torn with this one. It was better than the odd Chanel dress she wore to the Globes. And I love the pleats. But like the Chanel dress, it feels like there were too many details. I would have left the detail on the sides and gone without the jeweled embroidery on the front. But she still looks beautiful.

Diane Kruger in Naeem Khan

Some people hated this but I liked it. At least it was different. And it looked cool at the back. Kruger has awesome taste and takes chances. She’s always one to watch.
