I’ve always been a huge of gingham so I was happy to see the classic checked pattern experience a bit of a resurgence in 2014. And it’s going to be even more popular this coming spring – and fancier than ever. Gingham was one of the major trends on the runway for Spring 2015. Some of the designers who featured gingham in their recent collections include Altuzarra, Bottega Veneta, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, and Michael Kors

Sure there’s an inherent western quality to gingham (we see it a lot during the Stampede) but the ‘new’ gingham is more refined and grown up. There’s a sharpness to it. And we’re going to see more of it on dresses, coats, capes, pants and even accessories. Gingham’s also surprisingly versatile and while it’s powerful on its own, it also works well when paired with solids and other patterns like polka dots, stripes, plaids and even different sized gingham. Mixing and matching is as popular as ever and gingham is pretty much made for the trend.

Men should also consider how they can dress up gingham. A gingham shirt doesn’t only need to be a casual look paired with jeans. Dress it up. It looks awesome paired with a blazer and a bowtie. Or better yet, go for a gingham blazer and a gingham bowtie. I would.
