Gay Pride! And the Magenta Collection at Holts

I figure since it’s gay pride in Calgary this weekend, what better time to write about the limited edition Magenta Collection at Holts! For their 175th anniversary, Holts worked with some pretty awesome designers for some limited edition pieces that are exclusive to the store. Some of the items include Christian Louboutin heels (not my fave – a little much), Valentino heels (pretty), an Etro jersey top (cool on the right person but not a fan of jersey), a Smythe tuxedo blazer (love), an Alice + Olivia peplum dress (good price and they’ll sell tons), Manolo Blahniks (super good looking and a good buy), Jimmy Choos (OK but not the best), a Max Mara purse ($3,840 says it all), a Kate Spade tote (cute), Alexis Bittar bracelet and necklace set (too matchy but the bracelet is cool on its own) and many others.

Items for men (most likely fancy fruits) include really cool Naked & Famous jeans (want them), a Canali suit (good looking), a Paul Smith suit (cool), a Mackage wool coat and some fancy boxers.

Other items in the collection include nail polish, hand cream, coca-cola 6 pack (?), and chocolates – but $150 seems a bit much for truffles. Maybe it’s just me.

If you’re a big fan of Holts, some of the items are pretty cool and are a good buy.

Read more about it here and here.

Congrats on 175 years Holts

Diane Kruger in Vivienne Westwood at Cannes

I can’t go on about all the dresses at the Cannes Film Festival this year because there is just not enough damn time in the day, otherwise I gladly would. So here’s Diane Kruger in a silver and gold Vivienne Westwood dress at the Amour premiere earlier today. As you can see, it’s dress perfection. So beautifully well made and it couldn’t fit her better, not to mention the craftsmanship and the draping. It’s super glamorous yet has the slight edge that Vivienne Westwood is known for. And she was spot on with the minimal accessories and smaller earrings. You clearly don’t need much more with a dress like this. One of the best dresses at Cannes this year and one of the best dresses she’s ever worn.

Diane Kruger sure knows what she’s doing when it comes to red carpet drama. And she sure looks fancy in this dress.

MTV & Cindy!

On January 1, 1989, House of Style premiered on MTV. Cindy Crawford hosted for six years until 1995. The show focused on fashion, celebrities, parties and SUPERMODELS. It was, of course, totally awesome.

And if you don’t like this photo, there is something wrong with you.

Tom Ford Fall 2012

So yesterday my lovely friend Michelle told me about Tom Ford’s latest show and I’m obsessed. The man that made Gucci relevant again in the mid 90s is doing some amazing work lately. His Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection is modern and streamlined and linear and sexy. It’s also super glamorous yet simple which is a difficult thing to pull off. It’s super good looking and expensive while still being slightly low key. Michelle and I talked about how it seems like Angelina was a bit of an inspiration for this collection. It’s like he had her in mind when designing a lot of these pieces – can you imagine if she’d actually wear clothes like this?

My favourites – the perfect leather boots with the spike heel, the most beautifully cut suits, the gold accessories, the best bags, the long black pants with zippers at the ankles and the skirts – no one does a pencil skirt as well as Tom. Ya, he’s super arrogant and needs to get over himself a bit, but the dude is sure good at what he does. Well done Tom, well done.

Super Trouper – Cindy Crawford in The Sunday Telegraph

It’s no shocker that Cindy Crawford was my favourite supermodel in the 90s. Like any normal 12 year boy, I had pictures of her in my locker and bedroom. Except all the pictures I had of her were from Vogue. I thought her swimsuit calendars and posters were lame. And super tacky. Anyways, when she appeared in Playboy the second time, I was about 14. My wonderful Dad bought me the issue. He was super excited to give it to me. Poor guy. When I saw it, I immediately flipped through the issue really quickly, and was excited about only one picture. I ripped it out of the magazine and never looked at the issue again. The photo was a head shot. But her hair looked super good. This is Cindy modeling in The Sunday Telegraph, Spring 2012. I looooooove those Givenchy shoes. They’re my new fave.

Guess Campaign 30th Anniversary – Claudia Schiffer

When I was in junior high, my best friend at the time and I both had favourite supermodels – mine was of course Cindy Crawford and his was Claudia Schiffer. We had a bit of a competition over who was a bigger deal. He loved Claudia because she was hot and I loved Cindy because she was so darn pretty. I didn’t care much about their bodies – or boobs. Anyways, any fashion fan at the time remembers Claudia’s iconic Guess campaign from 1989. They were the photos that pretty much put her on the map, looking like a young, sexy, fresh Brigitte Bardot. Recently, Guess came out with their new campaign celebrating their 30 anniversary, which features Claudia 23 years later. Amazing right? Obviously there is some major photoshop going on but she doesn’t looking freaky. She just looks really good. We’re seeing a lot of the 90s supermodels resurfacing lately and it’s becoming more and more clear that they are simply genetically blessed. Question is, what will they look like in the next 20 years…

TIME Magazine Names The 100 Most Influential Fashion Icons

TIME magazine recently came out with a list of the 100 most influential fashion icons since 1923, when the magazine began. It’s a pretty cool and thorough list. It was split into four categories – designers & brands, models, muses (love that they included this as a category) photographers, and editors and stylists. Pretty much all the usual suspects are here but there are some notable omissions. And whether you agree with the list or not, you can’t deny that every person on the list has had a notable impact on the fashion industry. You can check out who made it and who didn’t here.

Jennifer Lopez – Awesome Vogue Cover. Finally.

Anna Wintour hasn’t been super exciting or innovative with the Vogue covers for the last couple of years but she for sure nailed it with this April’s cover with Jennifer Lopez in red. For Vogue – it’s perfect. The styling is sooo good. The red dress is awesome (I can’t figure out who it is), the minimal accessories are perfect (the gold ring and Hermes bracelet) and the hair and make up couldn’t be better – smokey eyes, amazing cheek bones and the strong red lips. It all makes for a pretty dramatic cover and one of the best Vogue covers in the last few years. Now if only Anna will put some legendary models back on the cover again, I’d be a very happy fancy fruit.

Jennifer Lopez – she just gets it. Whether you like her or not she sure entertains us (mainly me) with the way she dresses (the way her stylist dresses her). She’s pretty much the only reason to watch American Idol now. And by ‘she’ I totally mean her clothes. Check her out last week in pink Michael Kors, black T-strap sandals (which I totally love) and black diamond hoops. Not many can carry this off. But she can. And does it well.

Gucci 1970 Shoulder Bag – My New Fave

Gucci included some photos of this bag on their Facebook page and how it’s the bag of the season. And I totally agree. I’m always a fan of Gucci bags and I LOVE this bag. Called the 1970 shoulder bag, it’s sleek and sexy and has amazing details – metal corners, gold fringe tassel, brass hardware, chain shoulder strap and a metal snap closure. It’s super chic and good looking. And perfect for shopping on the weekends or going out at night. Would be great with a cool top and jeans, a dress or a nice suit. It comes in a few colours but I think the black version is the best looking because black and gold are just so damn good together.

If you’re looking for a bag this spring and fall, this is it. It retails for $2,190 on Gucci’s website.
