Met Gala 2016 – CINDY CRAWFORD Shines!

Once again, the Met Gala – fashion industry’s biggest night of the year – did not disappoint. It’s THE fashion party of the year and the one everyone strives to attend (except of course miss eye-roll herself, Gwyneth Paltrow). The beyond prestigious annual event marks the grand opening of the Met Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. This year’s theme being “Manus X Machina; Fashion in the age of technology.” While many stars are clever in how they interpret the theme year after year, some are far from it. This year we saw a lot of silver robotic-like gowns – but one fashion icon (looking at you Cindy) definitely stood out from the rest. Read on for my thoughts on many of the night’s most talked about ensembles.  Continue reading “Met Gala 2016 – CINDY CRAWFORD Shines!”

Oscar Red Carpet Recap on CTV Morning Live

CTV Casey Wagar

Chatting Oscar fashions with CTV Morning Live Host Aisling Tomei and Ryan Massel.

The biggest red carpet of the year is sure to get all fashion lovers talking.  So it’s always a pleasure to be a part of the annual CTV Morning Live Oscar red carpet recap. I was happy to head back to Calgary to discuss the good, the mediocre and the unfortunate (Heidi Klum usually makes this category) on the popular morning show. Oscars Red Carpet Breakdown

Oscars 2016

I think many of us can agree this year’s Oscars weren’t the most exciting – that includes the red carpet and the show itself. As we discussed on CTV Morning Live when I appeared for the annual Oscar style recap segment, there were some debatable looks but it didn’t feel like there were many that were universally loved. At least we can be thankful for Heidi Klum – and her unfortunate choices. Because lately on the red carpet, she’s become the gift that just keeps on giving.  Continue reading “Oscars Red Carpet Breakdown”

Some Favourite Fancy Oscar Dresses

Oscars
Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga (2007), Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford (2012), Michelle Williams in Vera Wang (2006) and Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture (2011).

As we approach the Oscars this weekend, it’s always fun to look back at some of the best and most memorable dresses from the past. Over the years at the Oscars, we’ve seen how some stars know how to work it effortlessly and just radiate style and confidence on the red carpet (Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Jane Fonda) while others have fun with fashion and don’t take it as seriously (Cher, Lady Gaga). And there’s definitely room for both. There are too many great dresses from the past to mention here so I should preface the list by pointing out that these are only SOME of my favourites – I could go on and on about many more.  Continue reading “Some Favourite Fancy Oscar Dresses”

This Year’s Grammys Red Carpet Needed Rihanna

For the most part, I was a little underwhelmed by the red carpet this year at the Grammys. There were a few good looks but none that were as exciting or as unforgettable as Rihanna in that incredible pink Giambattista Valli Couture dress last year. She was supposed to perform but had to cancel at the last minute, which was too bad because chances are everyone would be talking about what she wore this week. Now less than two weeks to go before the biggest red carpet of the year!   Continue reading “This Year’s Grammys Red Carpet Needed Rihanna”

Cate Blanchett Steels the Show at the BAFTAs

The 69th BAFTA awards took place on Sunday night and while the prestigious British awards show is usually a pretty accurate predictor of who will win the Oscar at the end of the month, the BAFTAs this year were about one thing only – Cate Blanchett’s incredible McQueen gown. That is one fancy dress. More on Blanchett and some of the night’s other notable looks, below.  Continue reading “Cate Blanchett Steels the Show at the BAFTAs”

Golden Globes Gowns – 2016 Red Carpet Breakdown

GG 2016
Jennifer Lopez in Giambattisa Valli, Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture and Julianne Moore in Tom Ford.

As always, the Golden Globes remain one of the best red carpets of the year to watch because the stars tend to be less reserved and have more fun with their choices than we often see at the Oscars when the pressure is so huge. We saw many great looks this year at the Globes – some unexpected and debatable ones – and then there was Katy Perry. Which was pretty much universally panned.  Continue reading “Golden Globes Gowns – 2016 Red Carpet Breakdown”

Best Red Carpet Moments of 2015

Best Dressed 2015
Some tops looks in 2015: Julianne Moore in Armani Privé, Rihanna in Giambattista Valli, Beyoncé in Givenchy, Jane Fonda in Valentino and Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell.

When I was a teenager, every year I anxiously waited for InStyle‘s annual list of the best dresses of the year. I often agreed and more often disagreed, and thought of all the looks they missed. Now it’s cool to be able to make my own annual list. In 2015, we saw many impressive and memorable looks and, as always, some unfortunate ones (looking at you Heidi Klume). But let’s focus on the positive. Like Rihanna. And Amal Clooney. And Jane Fonda, who had many incredible moments on the red carpet this year, and showed time and time again how she continues to defy any logic to do with aging.  Continue reading “Best Red Carpet Moments of 2015”

American Music Awards (aka The Jennifer Lopez Show)

AMAs

Since the show first began in 1973, the American Music Awards have always taken a back seat to the Grammys. And this year wasn’t much different. Many of music’s biggest stars were absent and while I’ve seen a lot more exciting red carpets, there were still a few fashion highlights. Thankfully Jennifer Lopez, who hosted the show, changed 11 times throughout the night. No shocker there – I’m honestly surprised she kept it down to 11. Lopez is always fun to watch because few stars make as much of an effort as much she does. She gives new meaning to “Hostess with the Mostess” ( easy I know). More on the some of the night’s most talked about looks below.

Emmys 2015 Red Carpet Recap – Well Played Lady Gaga!

Emmys 2015
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell, Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs, Taylor Schilling in Stella McCartney and Taraji P. Henson in Alexander Wang.

Every award show has its share of hits and misses on the red carpet. And the Emmys are no exception. While many stars play it increasingly safe these days with the help of their stylists, there are still some who are willing to take a chance and make a statement. But I miss the Sex and the City days, because few stars put in the consistent effort as much as Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw). Thankfully this year, Lady Gaga showed up.   Continue reading “Emmys 2015 Red Carpet Recap – Well Played Lady Gaga!”
