Emma Stone in Stripes & Polka Dots – Fancy & Flawless

When it comes to wearing cool and different clothes, including fun and unexpected combinations, Emma Stone and her stylist Petra Flannery are pros. Whether she’s appearing on an awards show red carpet or promoting her latest movie, she’s definitely become one to watch. Last week she attended the annual Oscar Nominee Luncheon in a very chic mixed-pattern outfit straight from the recent Michael Kors pre-fall 2015 collection (see side-by-side comparison below). And once again, she definitely pulled the look off.  Continue reading “Emma Stone in Stripes & Polka Dots – Fancy & Flawless”

Gingham Gets Fancy For Spring

Gingham1
Fancy Gingham: RAG & BONE checked reversible crop top; Dolce & Gabbana Gingham stretch-cotton skirt; CHANEL gingham resin cuff; Dolce & Gabbana gingham dress; Vivienne Westwood Gold Label gingham dress.

I’ve always been a huge of gingham so I was happy to see the classic checked pattern experience a bit of a resurgence in 2014. And it’s going to be even more popular this coming spring – and fancier than ever. Gingham was one of the major trends on the runway for Spring 2015. Some of the designers who featured gingham in their recent collections include Altuzarra, Bottega Veneta, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, and Michael KorsContinue reading “Gingham Gets Fancy For Spring”

Pearl Embellished Clothes For 2015 – It’s On!

Picture1
Pretty in pearls: Reese Witherspoon at the Palm Springs Film Festival and Gwen Stefani in Beverly Hills

Now that it’s the new year, it’s time to look ahead and consider some of the trends we’ll likely see throughout the year. Two styles that will likely continue from 2014  are embellishments and polka dots. And a perfect way to combine the two is with pearls. They’re timeless and feminine, and they make for an interesting detail when added to certain classic wardrobe staples. Although pearl embellishment isn’t a new concept, it has a 3D effect that feels modern and fresh heading into the new year. And it’s pretty much like having jewellery built into your clothes.  Continue reading “Pearl Embellished Clothes For 2015 – It’s On!”

Fancy And Cool Jewels For 2015 – Some Of My Faves

DD

‘Tis the season for shiny and sparkly things – and jewellery certainly falls into that mix. And let’s face it, jewellery makes a great Christmas gift because it’s nice to enjoy in the New Year. I’m pretty much always on the lookout for nice jewellery and the holidays are a perfect time to do it. Whether it’s elegant and fine jewellery or contemporary and chic, I’m a fan. And great jewellery isn’t just for the ladies. While there’s a growing number of awesome jewellery lines geared specifically for men, I think both men and women should wear whatever kind of jewellery they want – whoever it’s intended for. Below are four jewellery lines I think are particularly fancy or cool – or a bit of both – for the New Year.  Continue reading “Fancy And Cool Jewels For 2015 – Some Of My Faves”

Jennifer Laurence’s Sexy And Cool Oversized Blazer

JL
Jennifer Laurence in Antonio Berardi earlier this week

It’s all about the oversized black blazer – one of those perfect wardrobe staples. It can be worn with all the classics – jeans, skinny pants, a pencil skirt, etc. – and it’s also a great and contemporary way to pair with a dress for events this holiday season. Jennifer Laurence completely nailed the look recently for an appearance on The Late Show with Dave Letterman. Wearing head-to-toe Antonio Berardi, Lawrence couldn’t have looked more confident and chic. She (her stylist) accessorized the look with sexy ankle strap heels (another important wardrobe staple), awesome retro gradiated sunglasses and the perfect shade of red lipstick, which I’ll never stop loving.  Continue reading “Jennifer Laurence’s Sexy And Cool Oversized Blazer”

Holt Renfrew Presents LOOK2014: It’s Time To Get Fancy

FB Ad
There’s no shortage of fancy events this fall in Calgary but LOOK2014 is definitely not one to be missed. Calgary’s iconic Centennial Planetarium comes back to life on November 1 for an unforgettable night supporting Contemporary Calgary, a new organization (formed through the merger of the Art Gallery of Calgary, the Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary and the Institute of Modern and Contemporary Art) dedicated to celebrating modern art in Calgary. Presented by Holt Renfrew and with support from Enbridge and the Calgary Herald, with honorary Event Chairs Ann & Morris Dancyger, and Mark Tewksbury & Rob Mabee, LOOK2014 is going to be a super chic event unlike many others.

Camo Heels Are Fancy For Fall

Camo
Clockwise from top left: camouflage heels from Michael Kors, Valentino, (red and silver) Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin.

Camouflage has been going strong for a couple of seasons now but this fall, the look is as popular as ever. Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing’s show for fall 2014 was heavy on the military-chic inspired look (it as an awesome collection which I loved) and he regular refers to his models as the #balmainarmy on Instagram. And while shopping recently at Calgary’s new Nordstrom location, I saw the most cool red and black camo Valentino heels (also available at Holt Renfrew) and I was totally smitten. Which then got me thinking about how camo can be surprisingly fancy – and versatile. Especially as a heel. You could totally do a camo heel with cool skinny jeans, a dress, a suit – the options are basically endless. And the print couldn’t be better for this time of year.  Continue reading “Camo Heels Are Fancy For Fall”

Versus Versace’s Spring 2015 Collection – How To Rock A Similar Look

Versus
Versus Versace Spring 2015 collection at NYFW

Donatella Versace has stepped up her game and wisely partnered up with Anthony Vaccarello for Vesus Versace’s Spring 2015 collection at NYFW. And although Versus is Versace’s secondary, more youthful inspired line, the clothes for Spring 2015 felt grown up and wearable (for the most part), more so than what we’ve come to expect from Versace’s signature collection. Many of the pieces, including strapless dresses paired with long blazers (above), well-cut pant suits belted at the waist and long sleeve shirt dresses, were chic and still hinted at Versace’s unapologetic sexy vibe without being too over-the-top or campy.  Continue reading “Versus Versace’s Spring 2015 Collection – How To Rock A Similar Look”

Getting Fancy for Dîner en Blanc

White 1

Thousands of party goers will be attending Dîner en Blanc tonight in Calgary. And like last year, the huge chic picnic is sure to be a night to remember. But because the event stipulates that all guests must wear white, it can be hard for some to find something original but still stylish to wear. While there’s sure to be a lot of white dresses made of lace and eyelet (which is lovely), there are some other good options to help stylish party-goers stand out.
