The Stars Sparkle – Literally – at LACMA Art and Film Gala

The stars came out in droves last week for The LACMA Art and Film Gala (the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the western United States). And they definitely came to play. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a red carpet full of so many stars at once so I decided it was time for a good old red carpet fashion recap. As a lover of all things fancy, I’m well aware that Oscar de la Renta was one of the ultimate lovers – and creators – of fancy clothes. And his lasting influence on fashion is undeniable. The iconic designer passed away on October 2^nd at 82, and leaves behind an incredibly successful and distinguished career.

Camo Heels Are Fancy For Fall

Camouflage has been going strong for a couple of seasons now but this fall, the look is as popular as ever. Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing’s show for fall 2014 was heavy on the military-chic inspired look (it as an awesome collection which I loved) and he regular refers to his models as the #balmainarmy on Instagram. And while shopping recently at Calgary’s new Nordstrom location, I saw the most cool red and black camo Valentino heels (also available at Holt Renfrew) and I was totally smitten. Which then got me thinking about how camo can be surprisingly fancy – and versatile. Especially as a heel. You could totally do a camo heel with cool skinny jeans, a dress, a suit – the options are basically endless. And the print couldn’t be better for this time of year. By now everyone knows that over the weekend, super respected international human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin married eternal bachelor George Clooney in Venice. And it was fancy. Like really, really fancy. You can’t have a blog focusing on fancy and not talk about Jane Fonda as often as possible. Because she exemplifies it. And I’ll keep on saying it over and over and over. Jane Fonda is incredible. She’s pretty much ageless. And now at 76, she once again looks better than ever. Sure she’s had a couple of admitted facelifts but she doesn’t look strange or like she’s trying too hard. She just looks good. And she looks like herself. Fonda stars in the new L’Oréal Paris campaign in preparation for the launch of their new Pure Reds lipstick collection (available spring 2015).

Well shopping fans, the day is almost here. Nordstrom is set to open their first international store tomorrow. And fashion loving Calgarians (including moi) are thrilled. And for good reason. Lately we’ve seen more and more luxury stores enter the Canadian market but Nordstrom’s new Chinook Centre location is causing buzz unlike others. And if their clever marketing campaign and last night’s awesome opening gala (a benefit for Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and United Way of Calgary) are any indication of what we can expect of the retail giant, Calgary is in for something very cool.
