I love metallic shoes and I feel like silver pointy toed heels have been popular for a while now but gold shoes are every bit as fancy – if not more. And they’re great way to dress up almost any outfit for spring. Gold shoes totally have an Alexis Carrington quality to them. And it doesn’t get much fancier than Joan Collins in Dynasty. There’s something sexy and confident about gold shoes. They’re glamorous and powerful looking. And they can work for both day and night. Remember how awesome Carrie Bradshaw in the white Halton jersey dress and the gold sparkly Louboutin’s (top left photo) in the opening scene of Sex and the City 2? That was a pretty memorable look. 7 Things We Can Learn From Jennifer Connelly’s Awesome Spring Look
Jennifer Connelly has been looking incredible so far while promoting her new movie – her stylist is totally nailing it. While attending the Madrid premiere of the epic ‘Noah’, she wore a beautiful and super chic Giambattista Valli Couture mint green long sleeve mini dress with embossed leaves. It was adorned with a fancy ruby coloured embroidered neckline that gave the illusion if a striking statement necklace. She kept the rest of the look relatively simple with a side part and pony tail, dark fuchsia lips and nude ankle strap sandals. Fancy Polka Dots for Spring

Now that it’s spring and it’s finally started to warm up, we’re hearing a lot about spring trends. And one that seems to pop up every few years is polka dots, which are pretty much perennially cool. The pattern experienced a huge resurgence in the 80s and we’ve being seeing it periodically ever since. Dolce & Gabbana has been known to frequently use polka dots in their shows and included the pattern again in their Spring 2014 collection. Christopher Bailey also included a few polka dot looks in Burberry Prorsum’s Spring collection and Lena Dunham sported Burberry’s bold red and white polka dot shirt on the cover last month’s Vogue. Oscars Fashion Hits & Misses on CTV Morning Live
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of chatting about the fashion hits and misses at the Oscars on CTV Morning Live with Aisling Tomei. It wasn’t the most exciting or memorable year in terms of dresses but there was still lots to discuss. To break down our favourite looks, I was joined by interior designer Alykhan Velji and stylist Leah Van Loon. And then to discuss our picks for the biggest misses, Ricky Zayshley, Associate Editor at Avenue, joined the panel. We all could have gone on for hours. We think this should be a monthly gig! Good times.

Oscars Style Winner? Cate’s Earrings!
I think most people agree that the fashion at the Oscars wasn’t all that exciting this year. Of course there were some lovely dresses but it was all so damn safe. There was definitely no Gwyneth in a Tom Ford cape. Or Nicole in a embroidered fur-lined chartreuse Dior Couture down. While I wasn’t jumping up and down after seeing one dress in particular, there were some memorable looks. The clear standout of the night? Cate Balanchett’s statement opal earrings, of course. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. The Chopard stunners were made of 62 white opals (33 carats) set in white pave diamond and 18K white gold. It doesn’t get much fancier than that. No doubt those incredible opal earrings are how I will remember the 2014 Oscars. Continue reading “Oscars Style Winner? Cate’s Earrings!”
Fancy Safari Chic at Balmain

Paris Fashion Week has totally been killing it – more exciting and inspiring than the fashion weeks in New York, London and Milan. I was a little underwhelmed with all three of them. Like, I wasn’t even totally in love with Tom Ford’s fall collection, which was a rarity for me. But Paris Fashion Week has been awesome, and there are so many important shows still to come. One of my favourite Paris collections so far was Balmain. Olivier Rousteing showed a safari inspired collection with a fancy urban twist and one that seemed to embrace different cultures. Saint Laurent’s Classic Monogramme YSL Collection – It’s Fancy
When Hedi Slimane was introduced as the new Creative Director at Yves Saint Laurent in 2012, he made some bold moves to rebrand the company. One of those controversial changes included moving away from the company’s classic interlocking YSL logo (first introduced in the 1960s) and replacing it with Saint Laurent Paris in simple white block font lettering. Well, loyal fans can rejoice because Saint Laurent now has a full line of accessories, including handbags, clutches, wallets and a few pieces of jewellery, called the Classic Monogramme Collection, showcasing the brand’s original YSL logo (I need the silver ring!). It was a smart move because the pieces are awesome. And fancy. Continue reading “Saint Laurent’s Classic Monogramme YSL Collection – It’s Fancy”
Red Carpet Watch – BAFTA Awards
The Oscars are fast approaching and the BAFTA Awards are the last big precursor to the big night. The stars usually bring it on the red carpet at the BAFTAs – they often choose looks that make a statement but are a little more understated as opposed to super formal gowns we see at the Oscars. So, who was the most stunning on the red carpet? Duh, Brad and Angelina of course. Looking incredibly chic in matching tuxedos, they totally nailed the look – and owned the night. Rodarte – Best of NYFW Fall 2014
Fashion week is in full force and one of the most talked about collections so far is sure to be Rodarte. After a somewhat disappointing spring 2014 collection, the Mulleavy sisters delivered a solid fall collection featuring a lot ‘cool’ clothes that are sure to grow their following. Although some of the patch work pieces weren’t my favourite and the knee high nylons looked like they were inspired by Little Edie (and solely for the runway), the sisters designed a collection of mostly wearable clothes by referencing a significant time in their past. Statement Earrings from the Early 90s – “They’re baaaack”

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, big statement earrings were huge (no pun intended). And no one did it better than legendary supermodel Linda Evangelista. When I was little, I used to go to a store in Calgary called White Sun in Mount Royal Village with my mother. And while she shopped, I would stay with the sales ladies at the jewelry counter and happily go through all the new gigantic earrings. When new stock came in, we used to play a game where they would ask me to pick my favourite earrings and which ones I thought were the most expensive – I was always right: “he did it again!” It’s been a while since the look has been super popular and I think we’re going to see a lot more huge earrings this year.
