2014 Grammys: Dresses, Daft Punk and Pharrell’s Hat

Grammys

The Grammys are usually a pretty big night for memorable red carpet appearances. Remember Jennifer Lopez’s legendary sheer green Versace dress in 2000? People still talk about it. Not sure there was one single look that will be remembered from this year’s show, other than Pharrell’s Vivienne Westwood hat of course.

“Kate…Naomi…Cindy…Twiggy!” – Supermodel Dance

Lena Dunham covers the February issue of Vogue – the anticipated photos were recently released – and as part of the subsequent online promotion, Vogue released an original short, featuring Dunham and well respected Vogue editor Hamish Bowles, called “Cover Girl.” In the video, Bowles teaches Dunham how to pose for her editorial by demonstrating some of the most famous supermodel poses that appeared in the magazine over the years. It’s charming. It’s short. And it’s about the most legendary supermodel legends ever. Enjoy.

“We’re gonna take it from the top, we’re going to look back at the legends, and we’re going to find you a pose.” My new favourite line.

Fancy Colours at the SAG Awards

Picture3

It’s been a busy week for award shows and Saturday’s SAG Awards had the most colourful red carpet we’ve seen in a while. The stars tend to have a little more fun with their dress choices at the SAGs and the abundance of colourful dresses represented that. There were also some different dress choices that always make for good conversation and style debates. Below are some of the more memorable looks of the night. The Oscars are now only six weeks away…

Red Carpet Watch: Chic Dresses at Critics Choice Awards

CCAwards
Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’o and Sandra Bullock

Awards season is upon us and the stars were a little more casually chic at Thursday’s Critics Choice Awards. Once again Cate Blanchett looked stunning in a loose-fitting dark green Lanvin dress accented with a super good looking wide jeweled belt. She kept the rest of the look toned down wearing no jewelry and simple hair parted on the side. The strong red lips (which I totally love) add a pop of colour to the monochromatic dress. I love this look. It’s super chic, simple and modern. And that shade of dark green is a great colour and looks cool with black.

Globe Globes 2014: Some Fancy (and Unfortunate) Looks

Globes

The Golden Globes red carpet is one of the year’s best and a great precursor to the Oscars. There are so many stars at the Globes that it’s tough to discuss all the looks. While I was able to share some of my thoughts yesterday on CTV Morning Live, a more detailed and comprehensive list is below (in no particular order). Summary of 2014 – Cate Blanchett is the reigning Queen of the red carpet (super regal) and Paula Patton will likely never be (very unfortunate).

Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap on CTV

CTV
Talking dresses with Aisling Tomei on CTV Morning Live

It was quite the show last night and the red carpet gave everybody lots to talk about (and debate) today. And I had a great time this morning talking with the lovely host Aisling Tomei on CTV Morning Live about some of the fancy (and not so fancy) looks from the red carpet last night – view the full segment here. Like last year, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler totally nailed their hosting duties, proving once again they are the best duo to host an awards show in many years. Not only did they have the audience laughing and continually wanting more, they looked great doing it. Both the ladies looked awesome on the red carpet (Tina in custom Carolina Herrera & Amy in custom Stella McCartney) and in their other various looks throughout the show. They were funny AND fancy! Let’s hope they’re invited back to host again next year.  Continue reading “Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap on CTV”

Red Carpet Style at the Golden Globes

Nicole Kidman (2003), Kate Hudson (2013) and Jennifer Lopez (2007)

Like many fashion lovers, I’m anxiously awaiting this year’s red carpet arrivals at the Golden Globes, and I couldn’t be more excited. The Golden Globes is an award show where stars can afford to take a few more risks and have a little more fun with their fashion choices than they would at the Oscars. And there are certain stars that always know how to consistently bring it on the red carpet and you can always count on those women to wear something that will get people talking. Some looks are so striking, they’re hard to forget – even many years later.

Cool & Fancy Collar Necklaces

Picture11
Nicole Richie at a dinner for Antonio Berardi in Beverly Hills

I’ve always loved collar necklaces. They’re like the perfect combination of fancy, chic and modern. There’s also something timeless about them. Back in the 80s, my mom used to have a few of them and I clearly remember giving them special space when I reorganized her jewellery drawers when I was younger (yes, I actually did that and not because she asked me to, I asked her if I could – while other boys were outside playing street hockey, I was happily organizing my mother’s jewellery).

Cate Blanchett’s Fancy Winter Look

Cate-Blanchett-New-York-Film-Critics-Circle-Antonio-Berardi-3

Cate Blanchett is an acting legend. She’s an incredible talent and she also seems really cool and real. And she’s an amazing dresser. When it comes to fashion, Cate’s choices are as exceptional as her film roles. You may not always love her avant guarde looks but they’re consistently interesting and always high fashion. For almost fifteen years, she’s been one the major ones to watch on the red carpet. And we’re in luck now that awards season has started as she’s set to appear at most of the major award shows because of her praised performance in Blue Jasmine.

Fancy Sweatshirts for 2014

B&G
Beyoncé in Givenchy in NYC

Fancy sweatshirts were for sure one of the biggest trends in 2013. We saw them frequently on stars like Beyoncé and Rihanna, and they were prominently featured on the runways for Spring ready-to-wear 2014 (Marc Jacobs, Libertine, Aalexander Wang, Mary Katrantzou and Antonio Berardi), which means we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in 2014. There are endless possibilities for this look and the prices definitely range from reasonable to completely outrageous. Beyoncé’s incredible Givenchy printed sweatshirt with sequin sleeves retailed for $2,395 but it’s no longer available. Can you imagine paying $2,400 for a sweatshirt?! Not a concern for Beyoncé.
