#TheGaySweater Debuts During Toronto Fashion Week

There’s an inherent connection between fashion and raising awareness for important social causes. And a unique one was ignited this past Tuesday during Toronto Fashion Week (WMCFW). #TheGaySweater, the world’s first and only 100% ‘gay’ object, made its debut at David Peacut Square, the centre of WMCFW. I was asked to help promote the very cool and progressive social movement and it was a pleasure to help spread the word.  Continue reading “#TheGaySweater Debuts During Toronto Fashion Week”

Bella Returns With A Bang With Alberta’s Largest Fashion Show Ever

Bella
Top Calgary models Amber Conrad, Devon Elizabeth, Lauren Barrie and Jade Davis of The Nobles.

Last week, over 700 of Calgary’s most fashionable philanthropists and party goers enjoyed one of the most stylish evenings Calgarians have seen in a long time at Bella – Calgary’s premier fashion event. The sold out fundraiser, presented by Holt Renfrew and Calgary Health Trust, impressively helped raise over $500,000 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Foothills Medical Centre and the funds will help create the only in-born Level III Tertiary Care Unit in southern Alberta.

Chanel Does Fancy Parisian Chic for Fall Collection at “Brasserie Gabrielle”

Chanel1
Supermodel Joan Smalls at Chanel’s Fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection

Karl Lagerfeld’s done it again. Chanel’s latest runway show took place in a stunning Coco Chanel-themed restaurant built specifically for the runway presentation in the Grand Palais. Styled like a traditional Parisian brasserie, “Brasserie Gabrielle” was one of Chanel’s most authentic runway sets to date. It was chic. It was French. And it was very Chanel. After all, who doesn’t love Paris and enjoying the atmosphere of an authentic Parisian brasserie while drinking champagne?! After visiting Paris for the first time last May, I can definitely say I do.  Continue reading “Chanel Does Fancy Parisian Chic for Fall Collection at “Brasserie Gabrielle””

Oscars 2015 – Hits & Misses

Oscars1
Lupita Nyong’o in custom Calvin Klein, Emma Stone in Elie Saab, Julianne Moore in custom Chanel Couture and Rosamund Pike in Givenchy Haute Couture.

Well, as far as the dresses go, it was an interesting year. A lot of safe choices and a few risks – some worked and some didn’t. Usually when I see a red carpet look, I know immediately if I like it or not but this year there were a few I had to ponder. There was no one particular dress that blew me away but there were definitely some memorable looks – and a couple of unfortunate ones. Either way, some of the more daring looks appeared after the ceremony at the after-parties. If only people could have that much fun at the main event… So in no particular order, here it goes.

Getting Tough & Fancy for the CORE’s New Ad Campaign

Casey Wagar

A few weeks ago, I was asked to be in a new ad for the CORE (Calgary’s awesome downtown shopping centre) along with model Lauren Barrie, of The Nobles (below). And I course I said yes because it’s all about new and fun experiences. The campaign promotes the CORE’s parking services, which include complimentary valet parking (applicable parking fees apply) and free parking after 4 pm on weekdays and Saturday and Sundays.  Continue reading “Getting Tough & Fancy for the CORE’s New Ad Campaign”

Emma Stone in Stripes & Polka Dots – Fancy & Flawless

Emma3
Stone in Michael Kors at the Oscar Nominee Luncheon on February 2nd.

When it comes to wearing cool and different clothes, including fun and unexpected combinations, Emma Stone and her stylist Petra Flannery are pros. Whether she’s appearing on an awards show red carpet or promoting her latest movie, she’s definitely become one to watch. Last week she attended the annual Oscar Nominee Luncheon in a very chic mixed-pattern outfit straight from the recent Michael Kors pre-fall 2015 collection (see side-by-side comparison below). And once again, she definitely pulled the look off.  Continue reading “Emma Stone in Stripes & Polka Dots – Fancy & Flawless”

Grammys Red Carpet: Rihanna’s Dress is Pharrel’s Hat of 2015

Grammys

A day before the Grammys, I posted on Facebook that I was excited to see what the stars will be wearing and I knew we’d see some looks from the Spring 2015 couture shows that just wrapped up in Paris. I predicted we’d see Alexandre Vauthier, Versace, Zuhair Murad and maybe Jean Paul Gaultier (if we’re lucky). And we definitely did. Miley Cyrus wore Alexandre Vauthier, Gwen Stefani rocked Atelier Versace, Katy Perry wore Zuhair Murad and a Kardashian wore Jean Paul Gaultier and all the looks were straight off the runway. But we all know the one dress everyone is still talking about it…and probably will for some time.  Continue reading “Grammys Red Carpet: Rihanna’s Dress is Pharrel’s Hat of 2015”

More Red Carpet Looks at the SAG Awards

SAGs
Emma Stone in Dior Haute Couture, Lupita Nyong’o in Elie Saab, Reese Witherspoon in Giorgio Armani and Julia Roberts in Givenchy

The stars turned up on the red carpet again Sunday night at the 2015 SAG Awards, which is generally considered the most likely predictor of the Oscars. In terms of the red carpets looks, the night was relatively tame – and not overly exciting – but there were a few notable style standouts. Lupita Nyong’a was back on top of her style game and Emma Stone once again killed it. Next is the BAFTAs on February 8 and then the one they all care about the most (even though they say they don’t), the Oscars on February 22 – less than a month away!  Continue reading “More Red Carpet Looks at the SAG Awards”

Gingham Gets Fancy For Spring

Gingham1
Fancy Gingham: RAG & BONE checked reversible crop top; Dolce & Gabbana Gingham stretch-cotton skirt; CHANEL gingham resin cuff; Dolce & Gabbana gingham dress; Vivienne Westwood Gold Label gingham dress.

I’ve always been a huge of gingham so I was happy to see the classic checked pattern experience a bit of a resurgence in 2014. And it’s going to be even more popular this coming spring – and fancier than ever. Gingham was one of the major trends on the runway for Spring 2015. Some of the designers who featured gingham in their recent collections include Altuzarra, Bottega Veneta, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, and Michael KorsContinue reading “Gingham Gets Fancy For Spring”
