The Stars Sparkle – Literally – at LACMA Art and Film Gala

The stars came out in droves last week for The LACMA Art and Film Gala (the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the western United States). And they definitely came to play. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a red carpet full of so many stars at once so I decided it was time for a good old red carpet fashion recap. This is one of those events that consistently brings out the A-listers – the attendance looked like an award show.  Continue reading “The Stars Sparkle – Literally – at LACMA Art and Film Gala”

Emmys 2014 – Red Carpet Recap

Emmys2
Claire Danes, Gwen Stefani, Kerry Washington & Julia Roberts at the 2014 Emmys

I was away last week for the Emmys but couldn’t miss a brief recap. Overall, it wasn’t the most exciting night in terms of fashion. For the most part, most people played it rather safe, which is becoming more and more typical these days. But there were still a few style stand outs. Find out below who rocked the red carpet, and who could have been better (but weren’t completely unfortunate).

Rihanna at CFDA Awards – Fancy and Pretty Much Naked

CFDA

Rihanna received the style icon award earlier this week at the CFDA awards for her fearless approach to dressing. So what does one wear when being honoured for having no fear when it comes to style? Show up in a beaded and totally transparent gown, of course. And this wasn’t any kind of beaded gown. It was a custom, crystal-embellished fishnet dress (covered in over 200,000 Swarovski crystals) with matching 20s-inspired headpiece and gloves designed by young American designer Adam Selman (who happens to the partner of Rihanna’s long time stylist, Mel Ottenberg). A light pink fur stole completed the look. Continue reading “Rihanna at CFDA Awards – Fancy and Pretty Much Naked”

Fancy, Memorable and Extravagant Looks at Cannes

Cannes

Now that the prestigious film festival has come to an end, it’s time to look back at some of the most memorable looks on the red carpet – and a few that weren’t totally unfortunate but could have been better. Sure, Cannes is totally over the top, flamboyant, extravagant and a little garish but it’s a great time to reflect on the red carpet fashions – the beautiful, the outrageous and the ‘are you serious?!?’ looks. As usual, the incomparable Cate Blanchett’s style couldn’t be matched. And Blake Lively also stepped up her style game with some red carpet fashion show stoppers (she definitely came to play). But it’s too bad about Nicole Kidman. At one time, she was the darling of Cannes and the one fashion lovers were the most exciting about seeing. Unfortunately, that feels like a while ago now.

So in no particular order, here are some of the most memorable fashion moments this year at Cannes.  Continue reading “Fancy, Memorable and Extravagant Looks at Cannes”

Emma Stone’s Awesome and Eclectic Red Carpet Looks

Picture1
Emma Stone in (from left to right) Chanel, Valentino and Atelier Versace

Emma Stone’s wardrobe while promoting ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ has been nothing short of amazing (see what I did there?!). For the past couple of weeks, she’s made some super interesting and memorable red carpet appearances. It’s been one cool look after the other – all differently reflecting her colourful and unique personality. It’s also obvious the talented and fresh actress isn’t tied to one particular brand because she’s rocked an incredible selection of different designers for every one of her promotional appearances. Oscars Fashion Hits & Misses on CTV Morning Live

CTV

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of chatting about the fashion hits and misses at the Oscars on CTV Morning Live with Aisling Tomei. It wasn’t the most exciting or memorable year in terms of dresses but there was still lots to discuss. To break down our favourite looks, I was joined by interior designer Alykhan Velji and stylist Leah Van Loon. And then to discuss our picks for the biggest misses, Ricky Zayshley, Associate Editor at Avenue, joined the panel. We all could have gone on for hours. We think this should be a monthly gig! Good times.

Oscars Style Winner? Cate’s Earrings!

Oscars

I think most people agree that the fashion at the Oscars wasn’t all that exciting this year. Of course there were some lovely dresses but it was all so damn safe. There was definitely no Gwyneth in a Tom Ford cape. Or Nicole in a embroidered fur-lined chartreuse Dior Couture down. While I wasn’t jumping up and down after seeing one dress in particular, there were some memorable looks. The clear standout of the night? Cate Balanchett’s statement opal earrings, of course. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. The Chopard stunners were made of 62 white opals (33 carats) set in white pave diamond and 18K white gold. It doesn’t get much fancier than that. No doubt those incredible opal earrings are how I will remember the 2014 Oscars. Continue reading “Oscars Style Winner? Cate’s Earrings!”

Red Carpet Watch – BAFTA Awards

BAFTA

The Oscars are fast approaching and the BAFTA Awards are the last big precursor to the big night. The stars usually bring it on the red carpet at the BAFTAs – they often choose looks that make a statement but are a little more understated as opposed to super formal gowns we see at the Oscars. So, who was the most stunning on the red carpet? Duh, Brad and Angelina of course. Looking incredibly chic in matching tuxedos, they totally nailed the look – and owned the night.  Continue reading “Red Carpet Watch – BAFTA Awards”

2014 Grammys: Dresses, Daft Punk and Pharrell’s Hat

Grammys

The Grammys are usually a pretty big night for memorable red carpet appearances. Remember Jennifer Lopez’s legendary sheer green Versace dress in 2000? People still talk about it. Not sure there was one single look that will be remembered from this year’s show, other than Pharrell’s Vivienne Westwood hat of course.

Fancy Colours at the SAG Awards

Picture3

It’s been a busy week for award shows and Saturday’s SAG Awards had the most colourful red carpet we’ve seen in a while. The stars tend to have a little more fun with their dress choices at the SAGs and the abundance of colourful dresses represented that. There were also some different dress choices that always make for good conversation and style debates. Below are some of the more memorable looks of the night. The Oscars are now only six weeks away…
