Andy Warhol: Revisited

Like most pop-art admirers, I’ve been a fan of Andy Warhol for as long as I can remember. His contribution to the world of pop-art is legendary and many of his paintings are iconic pieces of pop culture. If you appreciate his work, Andy Warhol: Revisited, a museum-style pop-up exhibition in Toronto should not be missed.  Continue reading “Andy Warhol: Revisited”

2015 Fancy Holiday Gift Guide

Gifts

As Christmas quickly approaches, it’s time to get on those daunting holiday shopping lists. Because people often ask me for gift suggestions, I decided this year it was time to create a fancy (and mostly affordable) gift guide with suggestions on what to get those stylish friends and family members who appreciate unique pieces they’ll have for years to come. I’m a lucky guy because this list includes many items from some amazingly talented friends whose work I not only love and appreciate, I believe in.  Continue reading “2015 Fancy Holiday Gift Guide”

American Music Awards (aka The Jennifer Lopez Show)

AMAs

Since the show first began in 1973, the American Music Awards have always taken a back seat to the Grammys. And this year wasn’t much different. Many of music’s biggest stars were absent and while I’ve seen a lot more exciting red carpets, there were still a few fashion highlights. Thankfully Jennifer Lopez, who hosted the show, changed 11 times throughout the night. No shocker there – I’m honestly surprised she kept it down to 11. Lopez is always fun to watch because few stars make as much of an effort as much she does. She gives new meaning to “Hostess with the Mostess” ( easy I know). More on the some of the night’s most talked about looks below.

Swarovski Gets Colourful with Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

Everyone knows Swarovski is synonymous with sparkle. They’re pretty much the masters of it. I recently had the opportunity to preview Swarovski’s new Spring/Summer collection, called Sea of Sparke, at the ultra-chic Four Seasons in Toronto and it was definitely a pleasure.  Because ever since I was little, I’ve always been drawn the elaborate and sparkly jewels (hence why Elizabeth Taylor’s book My Love Affair with Jewelry will always be one of my favourite coffee table books and Dynasty still remains a source of style inspiration). WMCFW Spring 2016 collections took place last week and many of the shows were not only impressive but also a good reminder of the huge amount of creativity and talent among Canadian designers today. I had the pleasure of seeing Pink Tartan, Mackage and Mikael D and each collection had impressive elements that got the crowd talking. The designers behind the three popular labels also proved they know how to design with their customer in mind while also introducing new elements to continually keep it interesting.

Cindy Crawford’s New Book – Becoming

Cindy Crawford

Like many supermodel fans – and gays – I’ve been a huge fan of Cindy Crawford since I was a teenager. When I was in junior high, her photos and many Vogue covers covered my locker and bedroom walls. So I couldn’t have been more excited when Crawford announced releasing her new book Becoming (in anticipation of her upcoming 50th birthday in February), which chronicles her legendary career as one of the original supermodels.  Continue reading “Cindy Crawford’s New Book – Becoming”

Emmys 2015 Red Carpet Recap – Well Played Lady Gaga!

Emmys 2015
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell, Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs, Taylor Schilling in Stella McCartney and Taraji P. Henson in Alexander Wang.

Every award show has its share of hits and misses on the red carpet. And the Emmys are no exception. While many stars play it increasingly safe these days with the help of their stylists, there are still some who are willing to take a chance and make a statement. But I miss the Sex and the City days, because few stars put in the consistent effort as much as Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw). Thankfully this year, Lady Gaga showed up.   Continue reading “Emmys 2015 Red Carpet Recap – Well Played Lady Gaga!”

Best Dressed At TIFF 2015

TIFF
Jane Fonda in Yves Saint Laurent Couture, Kristen Stewart in Chanel, Rachel McAdams in Valentino and Rachel Weisz in Valentino.

I’ve been a little sidetracked with the upcoming move to Toronto so haven’t been on top of the blog the last few weeks. But now that we’re almost through the 40th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), it’s time to take a look and some of the best (and some questionable) looks we’ve seen so far this year (and it feels good to be back). TIFF is one of the leading film festivals in the world and as such, the world media descends on Toronto to photograph the parade of well-dressed stars. Continue reading “Best Dressed At TIFF 2015”

FANCY Evening Gown Pop-Up at Holts

IMG_8588
The exclusive evening gown trunk show at Calgary’s Holt Renfrew.

There’s no place like Holt Renfrew. Their selection of designer goods is unmatched in Canada and continually impresses me. So when I heard they were having an exclusive designer evening gown pop-up, I had to check it out. And I’m glad I did. Because I’ve always loved the excessive glamour popular back in the Dynasty days (Alexis Carrington will forever be a fashion icon) and these gowns were reminiscent of that level of opulence.  Continue reading “FANCY Evening Gown Pop-Up at Holts”
