Unexpected Bridal Looks On CTV Morning Live

Top Calgary model and personal shopper Amber Conrad stuns in Marchesa on CTV Morning Live with host Aisling Tomei.

Last Friday I had the pleasure of appearing on CTV Morning Live with the lovely Aisling Tomei to discuss and showcase some fancy and cool alternative looks for brides. We discussed how it’s no longer always about the big formal white wedding down. For the segment, we were lucky enough to feature an Italian lace Pink Tartan suit and a Michael Kors Collection sheath dress from Holt Renfrew, and a lovely Rachel Gilbert sleeveless dress with a hi/low hemline and an incredible Marchesa ‘Peony’ strapless silk cocktail dress from Ette. We also featured jewellery and accessories from both Ette and Rubaiyat – two of the most beautiful independent boutiques in Calgary.  Check out the full segment hereContinue reading “Unexpected Bridal Looks On CTV Morning Live”

Fancy And Chic Wedding Dress Alternatives

Wedding dress alternatives

Finding the perfect wedding dress can be stressful. There are endless options in all different prices ranges. But one thing to consider is that it doesn’t always have to be about a big formal wedding gown. These days there are more and more weddings that don’t call for a traditional wedding dress. And there’s an increasing amount of brides looking for chic alternatives to walk down the aisle in something that’s still memorable for all the right reasons.  Continue reading “Fancy And Chic Wedding Dress Alternatives”

Rihanna Wins Met Gala (Again) – Obviously

MetGala
Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna and Beyoncé at the 2015 Met Gala.

For fashion lovers, the Met Gala – the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute – is the biggest red carpet of the year. A night where stars can take changes on their lavish ensembles while celebrating fashion (it’s called the “Costume Institute” for a reason). And that’s a good thing. Because fashion should be fun. And this year’s festivities gave us one of the best and most exciting red carpets in a long time. When’s the last time there was an event where social media had so much fun creating memes of some of the most outrageous outfits?! Continue reading “Rihanna Wins Met Gala (Again) – Obviously”

Cinco de Mayo Style For The Guys

Bright colours and bandanas  for Etro’s spring/summer-2014 menswear campaign.

CINCO2015 is tomorrow night and guys should have fun embracing the Cinco de Mayo look. When thinking of traditional Mexican inspired men’s fashion, sombreros, ponchos, traditional matador uniforms and mariachi band outfits immediately come to mind. And unlike some of the Cinco de Mayo-inspired women’s looks (colourful dresses, flowers, big and bold accessories – a la Frida Kahlo ), some customary Mexican looks for men can be slightly harder to interpret. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Last year, Italian label Etro designed a whole collection celebrated the unique Mexican aesthetic with an awesome and sexy collection.

Embrace Your Inner Rock Star – Saint Laurent Style – At HUSTLE

Saint Laurent

When some of the city’s top event professionals get together to throw a party, you know it’s going to be a good one. HUSTLE, an annual fundraiser for Mealshare, produced by the Calgary chapter of the International Special Events Society, is definitely one of those events. This year’s theme is “rock star after-party” so the night’s sure to be a memorable one (or forgettable one, depending on how much of a rock star you become – if you know what I mean).  Continue reading “Embrace Your Inner Rock Star – Saint Laurent Style – At HUSTLE”

Cinco de Mayo Style

Contemporary Calgary knows how to throw a good event. And CINCO2015 on May 2nd is for sure one not to miss. A Calgary-style Cinco de Mayo celebration and fundraiser designed to leave attendees excited about the future of art in Calgary. Guests can expect interactive experiences, Mexican-inspired food and drink, entertainment, activities, and (of course) contemporary art. As the night quickly approaches, it’s time to get inspired by the colourful and celebratory style of the popular Mexican holiday. Because few themes are as much fun to dress for as Cinco de Mayo – it’s about being bold, colourful and most of all, creative.  Continue reading “Cinco de Mayo Style”

Local Design Talent – House of Nonie’s Impressive Fall/Winter 2015 Collection

House of Nonie
Ania B., blogger, model and Instagram star, wears some looks from House of Nonie’s new collection.

It’s always a pleasure to be introduced to fresh design talent – especially locally. And it’s no surprise that there’s an exciting amount of talented fashion designers coming from Calgary lately. Last week, I had the opportunity to preview the 2015 fall/winter collection of House of Nonie, the brainchild of local clothing designer Nina Kharey. And I was definitely impressed.  Continue reading “Local Design Talent – House of Nonie’s Impressive Fall/Winter 2015 Collection”

Jennifer Lopez Shows How It’s Done At MTV Movie Awards

MTV
Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Cara Delevingne and Michael B. Jordan at the 2015 MTV Awards.

The MTV Movie Awards took place last night and although I’m not sure why they still even bother (Does anyone actually watch MTV anymore? Remember when MTV was a thing?), the awards still provide for some memorable (and some questionable) looks. It’s a time where stars can be a little more casual and have fun with their fashion choices. So, who won on the blue carpet this year? Jennifer Lopez. Obviously.  Continue reading “Jennifer Lopez Shows How It’s Done At MTV Movie Awards”

More than 10,000 Votes Later, The Golden Girls LEGO Set Could Actually Happen!

Golden Girls Lego

BEST. NEWS. EVER. Two of my all-time favourite things are coming together. After receiving a lot of online media attention yesterday, the incredibly detailed fan-made Lego set of The Golden Girls impressively got the 10,000 votes it needs on the Lego Ideas site (where Lego fans create and submit ideas for future Lego sets) for Lego to now consider it for production. If it passes the necessary tests for playability and safety, it could become official Lego merchandise in the near future. And I’ve never been so excited – about anything.  Continue reading “More than 10,000 Votes Later, The Golden Girls LEGO Set Could Actually Happen!”

Pink Tartan Impresses At Toronto Fashion Week

Some of the many chic looks at Pink Tartan’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending Pink Tartan’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection, one of the most sought-after fashion shows during World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW) at David Pecaut Square. It was pretty cool to see such a popular show for my first time at Toronto Fashion Week.  Continue reading “Pink Tartan Impresses At Toronto Fashion Week”
