Julianne Moore in Saint Laurent , Jessica Chastain in Antonio Berardi, Angelina Jolie in Versace and Jennifer Aniston in Gucci
Award season is well under way and last night the stars appeared at the Critics’ Choice Awards. It’s definitely not the Golden Globes but there were still some noteworthy looks – and some forgettable ones. And it’s always fun when Angelina and Jen are on the same red carpet. Wouldn’t it be amazing if one time there was a style prank and they both showed up in the same thing?! People would freak. That would be the best stylist practical joke ever. Always the most fun award show to watch and one the best red carpets of the year. And of course Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved once again they’re the best award show hosts ever. They should pretty much just host everything from now on. And the fashion was good. Lots of colour. Lots of detail. Lots of glamour. But there were a few looks that were underwhelming. And one that was completely unfortunate. Can you guess who? Let award season continue! Continue reading “Fancy Gowns At The Golden Globes”→
Pretty in pearls: Reese Witherspoon at the Palm Springs Film Festival and Gwen Stefani in Beverly Hills
Now that it’s the new year, it’s time to look ahead and consider some of the trends we’ll likely see throughout the year. Two styles that will likely continue from 2014 are embellishments and polka dots. And a perfect way to combine the two is with pearls. They’re timeless and feminine, and they make for an interesting detail when added to certain classic wardrobe staples. Although pearl embellishment isn’t a new concept, it has a 3D effect that feels modern and fresh heading into the new year. And it’s pretty much like having jewellery built into your clothes. Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren Collection (January), Cate Blanchett in Givenchy (May), Rihanna in Stella McCartney (May) and Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen (March).
The end of 2014 is quickly approaching and that means it’s time to look back on some of the year’s best looks. And it was a good year for fashion lovers. There were tons of fancy events where stars majorly stepped up their style game. It was all about confidence where many chose to make statements with brave and exciting looks. We saw trends including vintage-looking regal dresses, major embellishment and detail, 80s glamour, menswear inspired pantsuits and looks that were modern, sexy and edgy. And Lupita Nyong’o, Amal Clooney and Cate Blanchett were definitely the style stars of the year (all receive multiple mentions on this list) . While not all the looks below were technically on red carpets, they were all equally as memorable. Looking forward to seeing the many fancy ensembles we’ll see in 2015. Happy New Year!
‘Tis the season for shiny and sparkly things – and jewellery certainly falls into that mix. And let’s face it, jewellery makes a great Christmas gift because it’s nice to enjoy in the New Year. I’m pretty much always on the lookout for nice jewellery and the holidays are a perfect time to do it. Whether it’s elegant and fine jewellery or contemporary and chic, I’m a fan. And great jewellery isn’t just for the ladies. While there’s a growing number of awesome jewellery lines geared specifically for men, I think both men and women should wear whatever kind of jewellery they want – whoever it’s intended for. Below are four jewellery lines I think are particularly fancy or cool – or a bit of both – for the New Year. Continue reading “Fancy And Cool Jewels For 2015 – Some Of My Faves”→
If you haven’t been to Calgary’s Holt Renfrew yet this holiday season, make sure to check it out – you definitely won’t be disappointed. The store is decorated beautifully and the window displays are incredible. There’s also live Christmas music on Saturdays and they have a huge selection of seasonal gifts, including toys, goodies and decorations, not to mention the best selection of luxury and contemporary designers in the city (but you already know that). And to help celebrate the holiday season with style – and raise money for an important cause – Holts is having a unique silent auction to benefit the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Holiday season is upon us and that means figuring out what to wear to all the fancy holiday parties. When I saw this photo of Peter Dundas, creative director at Emilio Pucci, at a recent event in NYC, I was reminded of the eternal quality of a well-made and good looking velvet blazer. It’s such a classic and distinguished look. And like most classic pieces, you can spend a lot but it’s not necessary. Sure, you can spend thousands for an incredible Givenchy or Saint Laurent velvet blazer but you can also find nice ones more reasonably priced – both Zara and Scotch & Soda currently have great options. Jennifer Lopez, Fergie and Elizabeth Banks at the AMAs
It’s often joked that the American Music Awards are the Grammy’s nerdy little cousin, which is kind of true (Dick Clark created them for ABC in 1973 when the network lost the contract to air the Grammys), but they still manage to get a decent amount of stars to attend. It usually comes down to a handful of A-listers and then people like the Kardashians. But the fashion is usually something to see. Two years ago Gwen Stefani wore a legendary embellished Balmain jacket that I’ll never forget. How did the stars fair this year? There were some solid sexy looks and some big misses. And unfortunately, no Gwen Stefani.
Jennifer Laurence in Antonio Berardi earlier this week
It’s all about the oversized black blazer – one of those perfect wardrobe staples. It can be worn with all the classics – jeans, skinny pants, a pencil skirt, etc. – and it’s also a great and contemporary way to pair with a dress for events this holiday season. Jennifer Laurence completely nailed the look recently for an appearance on The Late Show with Dave Letterman. Wearing head-to-toe Antonio Berardi, Lawrence couldn’t have looked more confident and chic. She (her stylist) accessorized the look with sexy ankle strap heels (another important wardrobe staple), awesome retro gradiated sunglasses and the perfect shade of red lipstick, which I’ll never stop loving. Posing in our fancy furs: me, Vanessa Mulroney, Lysa Lash, Vincent Law (Binzento) and Jan Hanrahan (photo courtesy of http://Binzento.com)
Last week, Power of Privé, a brand-positioning consulting agency based in Toronto, brought their unique talents and expertise to the Calgary market for the first time for a private trunk show with Montreal-based fur designer Lysa Lash. And what a pleasure it was. POP founders Vanessa Mulroney and Jane Hanrahan have incomparable experience working with global luxury brands, including introducing many of them to the Canadian market. Their prominent and sought-after events are always well received for good reason. Clearly, they do fancy well. Continue reading “Power of Privé (POP) Comes to Calgary with Designer Lysa Lash”→
